GROUND
Taking a tender yet radical look at the human condition, GROUND pits the dancers against the implacable forces of time and gravity. Each limited to the cramped space of his or her own trampoline, the dancers throw themselves wholeheartedly into an intense succession of momentum and restraint, rebounds and micro-movements. With a cinematic aesthetic, this meticulously constructed choreographic work offers us an existential reflection on what animates us, distinguishes us and brings us together.
In a tour de force as pure as it is mesmerizing, Caroline Laurin-Beaucage pursues her study of a body-matter, a body charged with constraints that we observe in its variations. Obsessive and captivating, the four dancers' performance reveals the unconscious dynamics and interdependencies of a social body.
The show also echoes Caroline Laurin-Beaucage's video work REBO(U)ND, which will be presented in the Grand Théâtre's STUDIOTELUS from August 30 to October 15, 2023. Here, the artist explores the theme of bodies escaping gravity, this time from a visual arts perspective.
