Manuel Roque [QC]CREATIVE WORKSHOP

November 30 – December 4, 2020 | 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

Along with his career as a performer with leading choreographers of the Quebec scene, Manuel Roque independently develops short choreographic forms. His first solo, RAW-me (2010), stood out at the Festival Vue sur la Relève and at the OFFTA. In 2015, Manuel Roque was invited to participate in Migrant Bodies, a project led by several Canadian and European partners, where he created Matière Noire. His latest creation, bang bang (2017) won the Prix du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) for the best choreographic work of the 2016-2017 season as well as the Prix de la danse de Montréal, catégorie INTERPRÈTE (2017).

The workshop is about exploration and kinesthetic listening to oneself, to others, to the group and to the environment. Through improvisation exercise and written material, the dancer is led to question the notions of physical experience, sharing, state of grace in order to create meeting points between virtuosity and somatic attention, with the aim to endlessly renew the pleasure of dancing. The workshop is punctuated by discussions / reflections on the notions of presence, experience, rigor, pleasure, integrity and the context of performance.
