MASTER CLASSES | Helder Seabra (PRT)

October 2 – 6, 2023 | 10 am – 12 pm |

Originally from Portugal, Helder Seabra is a prolific creator, performer and teacher who began his career at Ginasiano in Portugal and P.A.R.T.S in Belgium. At the same time, he performed for Companhia Instável in creations by Ronit Ziv and Javier Frutos. In 2004, he joined the Wim Vandekeybus / Ultima Vez company for the revival of "Les porteuses de mauvaises nouvelles". Since then, he has collaborated as a performer and assistant with Wim Vandekeybus, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Damien Jalet and other internationally renowned choreographers on a number of critically acclaimed projects.

As part of the development of his own artistic practice and in order to channel his previous experiences, in 2013 Helder founded Incognitus vzw, a structure with which he continues to explore the potential of body and mind and to seek different forms of dialogue through collaboration.

His artistic and teaching practices have always been intertwined, constantly interacting and evolving side by side. He regularly choreographs and teaches nationally and internationally as a guest professor at renowned universities, companies, festivals and choreographic and training centers. Over the years, as a teacher and mentor, Helder has led countless groups from a wide variety of backgrounds, sharing his creative and technical experience and knowledge.

INNERCORE

The class focuses on an organic way of moving, using and recycling energy in a continuous flow. Dancers will evolve gradually from the ground up, addressing concepts such as risk, confidence, instinct and speed. The focus will be on kinetic force and anatomy, starting from and returning to the center, with an opening to the inside (physical awareness) and the outside (all around us).

Participants will be challenged to merge what they control and what they let happen, and to explore a range of physical, theatrical and visual propositions and their own gestural language, drawing on intuition and personal experience to push their limits.

In a playful environment, the aim is to explore physical and mental limits, what we experience and how we can go further...
