ALEJANDRO
SAJGALIK (QC)
Alejandro Sajgalik is a choreographer, composer and performer. His practice explores metaphysical rootlessness and the bewitching power of technology. After studying architecture and living in several countries to write and make video art, he created his first dance and music works, following his childhood passion. In Montreal, he presented his solos N'importe où hors du monde (2018), Cantos para los insaciables (2019), and Materia Prima (2022). He is the recipient of grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts. Combining contemporary dance, electroacoustic composition and epic-inspired dramaturgy, his work is a quest for the total work of art. The transformation of our raw material-our breath, our voice, our gestures-illuminates our innermost selves and those of our environment. From these cracks emerge new sounds and the resonance of a cellular memory. Beyond the forces that wish to subjugate the human spirit, he contemplates the potential of our springtime intuitions. He is currently studying electroacoustic composition with Louis Dufort at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal.
