Keep Looking
The class will begin with a warm-up of each body parts, and will focus on different qualities of movements. Work and open communication will be addressed with a partner, allowing participants to assess whether they are alert and present with themselves, people around them and the space while dancing. Three challenges will be introduced during the class:

  • How to distribute the energy throughout a set of movements, technically very challenging
  • When to retain or to let go, switch from a quality to another
  • How to be fully involved in the “DO” instead of merely reproducing forms

Born in France, Thi-Mai Nguyen studied contemporary dance at the Conservatoire national de danse de Paris and at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. Her career as a dancer led her to meet the work of major artists. Her substantial stage experience was developed through 10 years alongside Wim Vandekeybus, 4 with James Thierrée and a tour with Michèle Anne de Mey. During these many years spent working for others’ ideas, Thi-Mai developed a powerful dance, which she combines to a fragile human dimension. Since 2015, her desire to create as a choreographer takes shape with Etna, a homeless character literally squatting theatres.
