WORKSHOP | Laura Aris Alvarez (ESP)

May 13 – 17, 2024 | 9:30 am– 12:30 pm|

Laura Alvarez is a performer, choreographer and teacher of contemporary dance. She directs workshops all over the world and believes that the act of teaching and artistic practice evolve together. She has developed a rich body of work, including choreographic commissions, solo performances and collaborations. Her stage experience includes a decade as a member of Wim Vandekeybus' Ultima Vez dance company, Juan Carlos García's Lanònima Imperial and the artists' collective General Elèctrica (1996-1999).

Workshop

The workshop offers a physical and playful experience, focusing on the mental challenges and explicit goals of artistic expression and creativity. Participants will try to change their perspective by exploring different ways of approaching movement and its qualities, creating a space that lies between novelty and familiarity.

Guided improvisations and technical exercises will serve as a starting point, mainly working in pairs and groups. Participants will play with their own vocabulary in defined but changing contexts, experimenting with and observing specific bodily mechanisms and mental processes as they dance. By broadening their perception, they will seek out those creative impulses which, once released, open up new possibilities for technical and performative realizations.
