maribé – sors de ce corps

CIRCUIT-EST MEMBER

For nearly twenty years, Marie Béland has been creating works for both adult and young audiences, presented in theaters, festivals, and public spaces across Quebec, Canada, Europe, and Africa. Drawing from everyday gestures, she transforms ordinary movement into choreographic material, revealing the blurred zones between reality and fiction.

Her creations approach live performance as both a social and aesthetic phenomenon, questioning the transformations an ordinary body undergoes when in contact with the stage.

Ses créations abordent le spectacle vivant comme un phénomène social et esthétique, interrogeant les transformations que subit le corps ordinaire au contact de la scène.

Founder of maribé – sors de ce corps in 2005, she develops projects that start from questions about what brings us together and how we act. From reflecting on dance clichés (God didn’t create you just to dance) to exploring the “body-as-speech” (Persona, BETWEEN, BESIDE), her works probe the relationship between body and mind, aiming to make visible the discourses and counter-discourses embedded in movement.
