Quebec | British Columbia

Once again this year, we’re delighted to present the Crossed residencies Quebec | British Columbia. These exchanges are a unique opportunity for dance artists to work on their projects in Montréal or Vancouver, two vibrant cities on the artistic scene.

One Quebec artist will be able to go to Vancouver, and one British Columbian artist will travel to Montreal.

In partnership with The Dance Centre, they provide valuable studio time, research opportunities, and connections with local communities.

André Bessette explores jigging and urban dances through cultural and community exchanges. Since 2017, he has trained with Yvonne Chartrand and the dancers of V’ni Dansi company, combining Métis jigging, swing, breakdance, house, acrobatics, and burlesque. His creations celebrate both transmission and innovation, weaving together Néhiyaw, Anishnaabe, French, Irish, and Scottish heritages. André performs at festivals and events such as Louis Riel Day, the Talking Stick Festival, and the Vancouver Pride Parade, and takes part in competitions like Back to Batoche Days and Asham Stomperfest.

Originally from France, Hélène Remoué is a contemporary dance performer, choreographer, and teacher based in Montreal. Trained at the Conservatories of Bordeaux and Paris, as well as at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, she creates works defined by a visceral and expressive signature, exploring variations of intensity within the body and the imagination. In parallel, she teaches contemporary dance in higher arts institutions and various recreational contexts.
